Manual Greywater Systems
Manual gravity fed greywater systems can vary greatly in their design. Some use various means of filtering such as a greywater wetland leading to a pond or piping to planting areas. Others collect greywater in a rainbarrel connected to the washing machine for watering plants, lawns and gardens. In some cases others simply run a pipe to the lawn. Surface dispertion of unfiltered greywater usually does not meet codes. Gravity is important in manual systems to insure good flow to needed areas unless you use a pump. A basic component is diverter valves that channel the greywater to the filtering and disposal areas. Some Local codes may restrict or dictate the type of system you install.
The following books describe how to build and install your own systems. Click picture for details.
